Laminate Care and Maintenance

The beauty and life of your laminate flooring depends mostly on the type of regular care it receives. Quality laminate flooring that is well-maintained should last many years. Proper cleaning will keep it looking great for its full lifetime. Maintaining your floor properly will protect your investment for years to come.

Cleaning your laminate floor the proper way is easier than you think. All it takes is a little knowledge about how to select the right cleaning products and tools.

Regular Cleaning

Regular vacuuming of your laminate floor will remove the dry particles that accumulate on the surface of your floor. Most laminate flooring manufacturers have their own cleaners for your specific floor. They can easily be found at any quality flooring retailer. Most cleaning solutions come in a handy 32oz spray bottle and require no rinsing. FloorX stocks several cleaning products made for laminate floors.

After vacuuming, spray the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning solution on the surface and wipe with a microfiber mop pad. It’s that simple!

Do not use soap-based detergents or “mop and shine” products, as these may leave a dull film on your floor.
Abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or scouring powder, can scratch your floor. For sandy or gritty substances, sweep or vacuum regularly.

Your floor contains a protective layer. There is no need to wax or polish the surface.

Spots & Spills

Simply wipe with a cloth, sponge or microfiber mop pad. For dried solids, use a plastic spatula or plastic putty knife. Apply cleaner and wipe off.

Protecting Your Laminate Floor

Place a natural or colorfast mat at outside entrances to collect tracked-in dirt and
to absorb excess moisture.
For added indentation resistance, use felt floor protectors on chairs and other furniture. As a general rule, the heavier the item, the wider the floor protector should be.

Stain Removal

You can remove tough spots like shoe polish, tar and asphalt driveway sealer with nail polish remover containing acetone. Then wipe with a damp cloth.
